Hosted by the Union Street Tavern the event was held September 17 in Windsor, Connecticut under sunny skies with temperatures reaching the low 80 degrees.   Attracting 950 participants, a number up from 300 in year one, over eleven years the Tavern Trot has raised $300,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, according to Mike Deneen, part owner of the Union Street Tavern. Patrons can expect a line at peak hours but it tends to move quickly – this is a good time to take in the Windsor firefighter memorabilia that fill the walls, and the vintage decor including a beautiful, fine wood early 20th Century bar. Hosted by the Union Street Tavern in historic Windsor, Connecticut on Sunday, September 15, the 3.5 mile trail and road race benefited Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. A special participant was the grandfather of the little girl who started the foundation – he took part just two months after receiving a lung transplant. “This $100,000 is enough to pay for a year of a research project,” said Jason “Jay” Scott, the father of little Alexandra “Alex” Scott who started Alex’s Lemonade Stand outside her Connecticut home to help other children fighting the disease before she lost her…

Surpassing a goal of seven hundred set by the event planning committee, a preliminary tally showed 742 runners and walkers had signed on by the close of registration at noontime Sunday. “We have a great turnout,” said Mike Deneen, a runner and part owner of the Union Street Tavern that hosted the 3.5 mile road race. Spirits were high for the race that is also a fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a non-profit organization which raises money to fight pediatric cancer. Plans are underway for the sixth running of the 3.5 mile race through the historic center of Connecticut’s first town. Hosted by Union Street Tavern, the Tavern Trot is USATF certified and is a qualifier for the Manchester Road Race. Proceeds from the event will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a national charity for research to fight childhood cancer. The planning committee held its initial meeting Tuesday night, May 2, at the tavern which is located on 20 Union Street in Windsor Center. “Last year we raised $20,000 and overall have donated $60,000,” noted planning committee member Paul Murray.…
