Historic Victory for Tom Brady, Patriots & Super Bowl Return to Sadler’s Ordinary

Commentary by Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb.com   “The G.O.A.T.” took New England Patriots fans on a wild ride last night. Ultimately, quarterback Tom Brady and his teammates delivered a 34-28  comeback victory against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl 51. It was historic on so many levels, from the historic seventh appearance in a Super Bowl of a head coach-quarterback combination, to their historic fifth win, to Brady’s fourth MVP trophy to the five Super Bowl rings our New England ‘Lord of the Rings’ can now wear, to the first overtime win in a Super Bowl. Last but far from least, the Patriots victory delivered some sweet justice in the aftermath of the NFL commissioner whom -in connection to allegations without evidence- wrongfully punished our…

Enjoy “Remy’s Grinders” Again

  Write-Up & Photos by Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb.com The New England Patriots may be out of contention but Super Bowl Sunday continues as a great American tradition, with this year marking the 50th anniversary for the annual football showdown.  In Windham, Connecticut & beyond, “Remy’s Grinders” remain another great tradition. As many will attest – simply the best!                                   For the eleventh year, “Remy’s Grinders”, which gained fame being made at the old downtown “dugout” store, are being sold to benefit a good cause – to help “Bigg Play” kids with traveling expenses to play baseball abroad. Tremendous Response to “Remy’s Grinders” Fundraiser for Bigg Play

Article & Photos by Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb.com   It was big for Bigg Play !   The sale of “Remy’s Grinders” on Super Bowl Sunday to benefit Bigg Play had a terrific response. Bigg Play is an organization based in Windham, Connecticut that raises money to send youth baseball teams abroad. This year marked the tenth anniversary of the annual grinder sales fundraiser.   According to Bigg Play President Bill Shea, an article posted on newsandviewsjb last week  – “Lengendary ‘Remy’s Grinders’ Reappear on Super Bowl Sundays” – gave the already popular grinder sales, a tremendous bounce. Before noon on February 1, when grinder pick-up was slated to begin, Bigg Play had already run out of meat and had to send out to restock. Rows and rows…

Legendary “Remy’s Grinders” Reappear On Super Bowl Sundays

   By: Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb.com   Much as the mysterious village of Brigadoon appeared once every one hundred years, “Remy’s Grinders” reappear twice yearly in Windham, Connecticut – in November and again on Super Bowl Sundays. Back in the day in Windham “Remy’s Grinders” ruled. Customers are said to have come from far and wide to make their way down the stairway into the small, below ground grocery store, nicknamed the “dugout”, in pursuit of grinders made by J. Remy Handfield. Although “Remy’s Grinder Shop” – better known simply as “Remy’s”- no longer exists, the below ground site where it once was, remains on Main Street not far from town hall in the Willimantic section of Windham.
