UConn Football “Grudge Match” On Tap with Randy Edsall?

Posted on September 12, 2013

Write-Up & Photos by Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb Heading into this weekend, the big question in Huskyland is – if what might be labelled a grudge match against former coach Randy Edsall will spur the University of Connecticut Football Team on to victory? With UConn decked out in their new fierce face Husky uniforms and Rentschler Field spiffied up for the August 29, 2013 season opener, including a new scoreboard, the Huskies suffered a shocking 33-18 defeat to Division I-AA Towson. The September 14 game against Edsall and his Maryland Terraphiins will take place on Connecticut’s home turf. Speculation has been rampant for the past couple of weeks about how UConn fans will greet Edsall when he leads Maryland onto the field at “The Rent”…

Nip in the Air & Patriots NFL Win Welcome the New England Autumn

Posted on September 9, 2013

By Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb.com At last, it’s here! A cool nip in the morning air is a welcome sign of the coming of autumn in New England. Foliage on a few tree tops has begun the annual transformation from green to various hues of gold and russet. Soon enough the beauty of autumn will surround us along the roadsides, in parks and on town greens. As a turtlenecks, corduroys and football games girl this is the time of year I anticipate. Starting tomorrow warmer temperatures will return for a few days but by Saturday the forecast is 69 degrees and sunny! The New England Patriots have a NFL season opener win under their belts from yesterday’s match up against the Bills. It may not…

Pitch Hitting A-Rod Displays Poor Sportsmanship

Posted on August 22, 2013

Commentary & Photo by Jacqueline Bennett Red Sox pitcher Ryan Dempster’s nailing New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez with a pitch last Sunday while he was at bat was a disappointing display of poor sportsmanship as far as this Red Sox fan is concerned. It’s no secret that many Major League Baseball players are disgruntled over A-Rod continuing to play as he appeals a 211 game suspension for alleged use of performing enhancing drugs (PED). Nonetheless, trite as the ole’ saying may be, two wrongs do not make a right. The PED mess which goes beyond A-Rod is already a cloud hanging over MLB. Dempster’s poor judgement is one more black eye on the sport which, arguably, more so than other any is representative of…

According to Open Water Source, the marathon swims in the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming…

Destination: Willington Pizza House in Willington, Connecticut

Posted on June 30, 2013

Write-Up & Photos by Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb Willington Pizza House in Willington, Connecticut is the kind of extraordinary restaurant travelers hope to stumble upon. Having stacked up numerous awards and having been featured in the New York Times and on “Good Morning America” and “CBS This Morning”, the specialty pizzas here are legendary. On Route 32, about a mile and a half from the University of Connecticut Storrs campus, it is a favorite eating place for some of UCONN’s biggest sports stars as evidenced by an array of photos on the walls showing the well-known athletes and television sportscasters with restaurant owner Jeff Kelly. Located in a 250-year-old converted farmhouse, the long light gray building with red and white trimmed exterior has a quaint…

Posted on April 27, 2013

Neil Diamond Leads “Sweet Caroline” at Fenway Park April 20, 2013 By:Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb Hats off to singer/songwriter Neil Diamond who surprised officials and the crowd at Fenway Park on April 20 to lead the singing of his mega hit “Sweet Caroline.” The tune has become the anthem of the Red Sox’s historic ballpark located in downtown Boston, Massachusetts (see previous post: “Sweet Caroline” & Night Air at Fenway – Entwined As One Of Life’s Joys). For MLB.com, Jason Mastrodanato wrote that after arriving in Boston last Saturday, when a pre-game show was scheduled before the Red Sox game to honor heroes and victims of the April 15, 2013 Boston Marathon terrorist bombings, Diamond called Fenway and said, “I’m here. Can I come?” Thrilling…

“Sweet Caroline” & Night Air at Fenway Park – Entwined As One Of Life’s Joys

Posted on April 19, 2013

By: Jacqueline Bennett newsandviewsjb Sitting in the night air at Fenway Park is one of the great joys of my life. Surrounded there by friends and family, all watching the team we love – the Boston Red Sox- play a sport we love, in a ballpark we love, in a city we love. Historic Boston, birthplace of American Democracy, the American Revolution and home to many of our nation’ s Founding Fathers and greatest patriots. Darkness falls, the enormous floodlights flick on illuminating the baseball diamond. The evening continues accented by a cup of Bud Light and a hotdog, followed by some popcorn. Innings pass as the players take their turn at bat or on the field. If the Red Sox are ahead, all…
